Botox Q&A
Why do I have frown lines and crow’s feet?
The wrinkles between your brows and at the corners of your eyes are caused by dynamic muscles that push and crease your skin when you make expressions.
When you’re young, this kind of manipulation has no discernible effect on your skin. But as you age, your collagen matrix disintegrates, and your skin doesn’t bounce back into place after being creased.
When you’ve noticed that your creases are still visible even when your face is at rest, you can contact aesthetician Lisa Rux at The Women’s Centre for a Botox treatment. Botox stops wrinkles that are caused by dynamic muscles, leaving your skin smooth and vibrant-looking once again.
How does Botox work?
Botox is a neuromodulator that prevents your muscles from getting the signals they need to make the kinds of expressions that cause wrinkles. When those dynamic muscles don’t contract fully, they stop pressing the skin into furrows and folds. The skin relaxes and smooths out until it’s wrinkle-free.
Is Botox safe?
Botox has been used safely to treat wrinkles and other cosmetic issues for decades. It’s FDA-approved for crow’s feet and glabellar (frown) lines.
After your Botox injection, you may have a little swelling or redness. This should resolve within a few hours to days.
Will I get a frozen face?
Lisa at The Women’s Centre only gives you enough Botox to relax the muscles that cause wrinkles. You don’t get enough to stop your muscles from moving entirely, so you’re still able to make normal expressions. Your Botox treatment will look beautiful, rejuvenating, and natural.
How long does Botox last?
When used to treat crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines, Botox lasts about three to four months on average. You can speak to Lisa about scheduling regular maintenance appointments.
Can I use Botox for other wrinkles?
Botox only treats wrinkles that are caused by dynamic muscles. It’s not effective on wrinkles that are due to sun damage or other factors. Wrinkles around the mouth — smoker’s lines, marionette lines, and nasolabial folds— can be improved with hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, such as Juvederm®.
If you’d like to smooth out your forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet with Botox, contact Lisa at The Women’s Centre by phone or online booking form.
